Filming Locations in Istanbul
The looks Istanbul offers on screen, and the practical notes producers need for each: access, light, crowds and permissions.

Draft — written, needs fact-checking and LSS review before publishing.
Istanbul is easy to recognise on screen and hard to reduce to one look. Waterfront palaces, Ottoman domes, nineteenth-century streets and glass towers sit within one shooting area. The question is rarely what to film — it is which locations work together once traffic, access, light and permissions are counted.
The Bosphorus and the waterfront
The quickest way to say Istanbul: ferries, palaces, wooden waterfront houses and bridges between continents. Boat units need their own plan, because wind, current and marine traffic decide what is possible, and small boats move more than visiting crews expect.
The Historic Peninsula
Domes, minarets, cisterns and stone courtyards. Heritage sites carry the most permissions and the biggest crowds, so they need the earliest planning. Early calls give cleaner backgrounds and kinder light.
Galata, Karaköy and Beyoğlu
Steep streets, historic façades, galleries and a contemporary port within walking distance. Ideal for compact units; hills and pedestrian streets slow heavy kit, so company moves take longer than the map suggests.
The Asian side
Kadıköy, Moda and Üsküdar: markets, cafés, seafront promenades and views back to the old city. A more local, contemporary Istanbul that avoids the feel of a tourism film.
Contemporary Istanbul
Glass towers, corporate lobbies and wide avenues around Levent and Maslak, for commercial, corporate and fashion work that needs a modern metropolis.
Beyond the centre
Car-free islands, forest roads and open Black Sea coastline within reach of the city, for stories that need space.
Planning the day
We group locations by area rather than by script order, and we treat a quick handheld setup and a lit setup with talent as very different things on a call sheet. Tell us the scale of your unit and we’ll tell you how many locations a day is realistic.
